In the school summer holidays, I spent most of my holidays with my mother at home. Two almond merchants from Afghanistan came to our village home in India. They had glowing complexions and bright red faces. They carried a large sack around their neck and showed their almond’s quality to my mother. They had the best quality small almond kernels full of nutrition and aroma. We bought almonds from them in exchange for some money, metal, and clothes. My father would then take the almonds to a ‘Ghani’, a traditional method of extracting oil, and would bring back the pure spirit of mother nature; organic ‘badam oil’. Also called A Symbol of Wisdom.
